V. Read the text and answer the questions below (1m)
Air, water, and soil are necessary to the survival of all living things. Badly polluted air can
cause illness, and even death. Polluted water kills fish and other marine life. Pollution of the
soil reduces the amount of land that is available for growing food. The pollution problem is
very complicated because much pollution is caused by things that benefit people. For
example, exhaust from automobiles causes a large percentage of air pollution. But the
automobiles provides transportation for millions of people. Factories discharge much of the
material that pollutes the air and water, but factories give employment to a large number of
people. Thus, to end or greatly reduce pollution immediately, people would have to stop using
many things that benefit them. Pollution can be gradually reduced in several ways. Scientists
and engineers can work to find ways to lessen the amount of pollution that such things as
automobiles and factories cause. Governments can pass and enforce laws that require
businesses and individuals to stop, or to cut down on certain polluting activities.
Questions:
27. What is necessary for the survival of all living things?

28. What can badly polluted air cause?

V. Read the text and answer the questions below (1m)
Since the world became industrialized, the number of animal species that have either become
extinct or near extinction has increased. Bengal tigers, for instance, which once roamed the
jungles in vast numbers, now number only about 2,300. By the year 2025, it is estimated that
they will become extinct.
What is alarming about the case of the Bengal tiger is that this extinction will have been
caused almost entirely by poachers who, according to some sources, are not always interested
in material gain but in personal gratification. This is an example of the callousness that is
contributing to the problem of extinction. Animals such as Bengal tiger, as well as other
endangered species, are valuable parts of the world’s ecosystem. International laws protecting
these animals must be enacted to ensure their survival – and the survival of our planet.
27..According to the passage, what is the reason for extinction and near extinction of the
number of animal species?
…………………………………………………………………………………
28..How many Bengla tigers in the wild now?.
…………………………………………………………………………………
29. What are valuable parts of the world’s ecosystem?
